General

What gas mileage can I expect to get?

All of our vehicles are based on Mercedes Benz Sprinter Van chassis powered by a Diesel 6 cyl engine.  Gas mileage ranges between 17-19 MPG (12-15 liters/100 KM).

How do I rent an RV from you?

Renter requirements:

  • Driver(s) have to be at least 25 years of age
  • Have a valid drivers license with a clean record
    • A clean record is defined as no DUI, and no more than 2 traffic infractions within last 5 years on file
  • All intended drivers have to be disclosed and meet the above mentioned criteria

Select RV that meets your needs

  • Select a vehicle that is suitable for the type of adventure you are seeking.  Our RVs are geared towards adventure or luxury experiences.
  • We also offer different sleeping accommodations/options.  Please refer to our Sleeping Arrangement FAQ for more info.  If you have any questions, please reach out to us.  We’re here to help!
  • We will share a comprehensive equipment and RV stocking list with you, so you will know exactly what you’ll need for your trip.

Insurance Coverage

Booking your RV

  • Our booking process is self serve, however we would be happy to guide you through the process.
  • If you are flexible, look for offseason rates.  Many campgrounds and parks are opened year round & often have less visitors.
  • If you are planning on visiting some of our popular parks, we recommend you book in advance. With our flexible cancellation policy, it’s risk free.
  • Keep in mind that many parks also offer first come, first serve campgrounds.  Renting a campervan allows for the freedom to plan as you go.

A week prior to departure

  • We will reach out to you in order to coordinate & firm up the meeting place & RV orientation.  We provide several meeting options within the San Francisco and Palo Alto areas.  We will also work with you to determine a more suitable location if required.
  • We will share a detailed supply list as well as RV manual.  These documents are intended to help you pack accordingly as our RVs come well equipped with necessities, gear and consumable items.
  • Remaining booking balance & deposit are due & will be automatically charged to your account

RV Pick Up

  • Budget for a 45 minutes for orientation.  We want you to take advantage of all of the RV's technology and features.  We’d be happy to tag along for a test drive with you if desired.
  • You will get a chance to inspect the vehicle and sign the rental contract (similar to car rental.)
  • We will also firm up the meeting place for vehicle return.

RV Return

  • We will meet at an agreed location and time to pick up the RV.
  • TRAIL MIX RV will inspect the RV and refund your deposit if no damage is found within 48 business hours of the rental return along with email confirmation

What is the security deposit used for?

The security deposit covers the typical amount of insurance deductible for any damage to the vehicle. In addition to this, it may be used as: Overage on KM allowance, missing gear/equipment, damage caused to inside/outside of the vehicle, not covered by the insurance, topping off gas if not returned full.

Is there roadside assistance?

All of our campervan rental prices include 24 hour roadside assistance. Please refer to the RV manual for details.

What are the RV pick up & drop off times?

  • The rental period is considered 24 hours. If you pick up the van at 9 am, you’ll be expected to return it by 9 am on the agreed upon date. Please let us know if you are running late & we'll work with you to find a solution that works for you.
  • Standard late return rate is $30/hr.

Where can I pick the RV up?

What's great about renting with TRAIL MIX RV is that we will deliver and pick up the RV directly to your door (within the San Francisco Bay Area). The location should allow us to move freely and safely about the vehicle during the orientation. We will also deliver or pick up the RV right to the specified address for one way rentals.  

Which equipment does the RV come with?

Can I use the RV in the cold?

  • All of our RVs are fully insulated and come with sophisticated heating systems that work well while off grid.
  • If you are planning on taking the RV into a cold climate, please make sure you let us know.

Policy

Do I have to purchase insurance?

Rental fee includes basic insurance coverage as mandated by California law. Coverage included in daily rental fee:
  • Deductible: $2,500
  • Combined Liability: $1,000,000
  • Bodily injury per person $15,000
  • Bodily injury per accident $30,000
  • Property damage liability up to $5,000
For additional piece of mind, you have the option of purchasing Supplemental Liability Insurance (SLI) for $14.95/day.
  • Bodily injury per accident up to $1,000,000
  • Property damage liability up to $50,000
Please inquire with your insurance carrier if your auto/existing coverage covers RV rental along with the coverage amount.

What happens if I cause minor damage to the vehicle?

  • Once you pick up your RV, you’re responsible for any damage that occurs during the rental period. California state minimum insurance is included in your RV rental.  You can also opt for supplemental insurance for additional coverage.  See insurance coverage FAQ.  Make sure you are aware of what your insurance covers and what you’re responsible for on the road.

What happens if I have an accident/mechanical failure?

If you have an accident or experience a mechanical failure please call us. The RV handbook is equipped with instructions on how to call roadside assistance. Our priority is your safety. We will help you resolve the issue and work on getting you back to your vacation.

Can I take the RV to a festival?

If you plan on taking the vehicle to a festival you must inquire with Trail Mix RV staff to obtain details and restrictions.

Can I smoke in the RV?

Please do not smoke cigarettes, tobacco, marijuana or anything else in the vans.

Are pets allowed?

We love pets, however do not allow them in Trail Mix RVs.

How old do I have to be to rent a Trail Mix RV?

In order to rent & operate the RV, you must be at least 25 years of age.

Where can I take the RV?

RVs are insured for travel within the US and Canada.  Only 4X4 RVs can be taken off-road.

What is your cancellation policy?

We offer a full refund if the booking is cancelled 15 days in advance of the booking start date.  If you need to cancel/reschedule your reservation 14 days prior to your trip, you will receive a full credit for all the fixed fees (i.e. cleaning) and a 50% RV rental fee refund.
